ACB joins an International Coalition led by Performing Arts Organizations to Commission COVID-19 Study

The Association of Concert Bands (ACB) is pleased to become a member of an international coalition of performing arts organizations that have joined forces to commission a study on the effects of COVID-19 on the return to the rehearsal hall. The coalition is being spearheaded by the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).

On June 9, 2020, the Board of Directors of the Association of Concert Bands approved to financially support two research studies looking at the risks of COVID-19 in the arts community.

These studies are :

  • "Aerosol Generation from Musical and Theatrical Performers and Risk of Infectious Disease Transmission." This is the study commissioned by the CBDNA/NFHS COVID-19 Research Coalition. This study is being conducted at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU) with a duplicate study being conducted at the University of Maryland.  
  • " Reducing Bioaerosol Emissions and Exposures in the Performing Arts: A Scientific Roadmap for a Safe Return from COVID-19." This study is taking place at Colorado State University (CSU).
