American Prize Recognizes ACB Members in 2021 Awards Year

"The American Prize is a series of new, non-profit national competitions in the performing arts providing cash awards, professional adjudication and regional, national and international recognition for the best recorded performances by ensembles and individuals each year in the United States at the professional, college/university, church, community and secondary school levels. Administered by Hat City Music Theater, Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Danbury, Connecticut, The American Prize was founded in 2009 and is awarded annually. The competitions of The American Prize are open to all U.S. citizens, whether living in this country or abroad, and to others currently living, working and/or studying in the United States of America, its protectorates and territories." 

On September 16, 2021  Winners: BANDS/WIND ENSEMBLES, were announced.  In the community division, three of our members were winners.

  • Acadian Wind Symphony (Gerald Guilbeaux) - Lafayette LA - Winner
  • The Allentown Band (Ronald Demkee) - Allentown, PA - 2nd Place
  • Boulder Concert Band (Kenneth Singleton) - Boulder. CO -3rd Place

On August 27, 2021 Winners: CONDUCTORS (bands/wind ensembles), were announced.  Two of our members were winners. 

  • The American Prize winner: Gerald Guilbeaux of the Acadian Wind Symphony in Lafayette LA
  • The American Prize 2nd Place: Matthew Salvaggio of the University Heights Symphonic Band in University Heights OH

On August 17, 2021 Winners: COMPOSERS (band divisions) were announced.  One of our members was recognized in the Band/Wind Ensemble (professional division).

  • Augusta Cecconi-Bates (Cape Vincent NY) Finalist Honorable Mention for PASTICCIO 

On June 25, 2021 National Finalists:  The American Prize for Band/Wind Ensemble Performance were announced.  Seven of our members were recognized in the community division.

  • The Allentown Band (Ronald Demkee) - Allentown, PA
  • Acadian Wind Symphony (Gerald Guilbeaux) - Lafayette LA
  • Mid America Freedom Band (Lee Hartman) - Kansas City MO
  • The South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble (Keith W. Hodgson) - Mays Landing NJ
  • Boulder Concert Band (Kenneth Singleton) - Boulder. CO
  • University Heights Symphonic Band (Matthew Salvaggio) - University Heights OH
  • Los Alamos Community Winds (Ted Vives) - Los Alamos NM

On June 15, 2021 National Finalists: The American Prize in Conducting—community band division, 2021were announced.  Two of our members were recognized.

  • Matthew Salvaggio, University Heights Symphonic Band - University Heights OH

On May 7, 2021 Finalists: COMPOSERS (band/wind ensemble) were announced.  One of our members was recognized in the Band/Wind Ensemble (professional division).

On April 2, 2021  Finalists for The American Prize for Composers - pops/light music were announced. One of our members was recognized for the professional division.

  • Edward (Ted) David Messerschmidt from Poughkeepsie NY for The Source Revisited     

On March 23, 2021  Semi finalists:  The American Prize for Band/Wind Ensemble Performance were announced.  Seven of our members were recognized in the community division.
